Favorite Summer Activities in Aspen
Summer in Aspen is full of traditions, outdoor adventures, and local events that return year after year. Whether you’re here for a weekend for an extended stay, these are a few of our favorite ways to spend the season.
Snowmass Rodeo
A longtime summer tradition, the Snowmass Rodeo takes place every Wednesday evening from mid-June to mid-August, rain or shine. Arrive early for the BBQ beginning at 5 PM before the rodeo starts at 7 PM. Just a short drive or RFTA bus ride from Aspen, it’s a fun evening for families, couples, or anyone looking for a classic Colorado experience.
Aspen Farmer’s Market
Every Saturday morning, downtown Aspen fills with local vendors offering fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, crafts, handmade products, and more. Open from 8:30 AM to 2 PM, the farmer’s market is one of the best ways to spend a leisurely Saturday while supporting local businesses.
Paddle Boarding
For a slower pace on the water, spend a morning, afternoon, or sunset paddleboarding at North Star Nature Preserve. The calm water makes it a great spot to relax, take in the scenery, and enjoy a different view of Aspen’s landscape.
Bluegrass Sundays
Bluegrass Sundays at the Sundeck on Aspen Mountain have become a favorite activity for both locals and visitors alike. Live music runs from 12 PM – 3 PM from mid-June through the end of August. Ride the gondola to the top or hike up if you’re feeling adventurous, then settle in and enjoy the afternoon.
White Water Rafting
Winter snow melt creates conditions for whitewater rafting throughout the Roaring Fork Valley that cater beginner to expert levels. With many rapids available, white water rafting is the perfect activity for those seeking an adrenaline-filled activity.
Theatre Aspen
Located beside the John Denver Sanctuary, Theatre Aspen brings Broadway-style performances to Aspen every summer. It’s an easy addition to an evening downtown, either before or after dinner. This season’s lineup includes: A Chorus Line, Guys & Dolls in Concert, and Grease.
Aspen Music Festival & School
The Aspen Music Festival & School has been part of Aspen’s summer tradition for decades. One of the highlights is the free Sunday afternoon concert on the Listening Lawn outside of the Michael Klein Music Tent. Bring a blanket, pack a picnic, and enjoy live music with the mountains as your backdrop.
Mountain Biking
With nearly 3,000 vertical feet and more than 25 miles of trail, the Snowmass Bike Park has something for every rider. Beginners can ease into the sport, while experienced bikes will find plenty of technical downhill terrain to explore.
