The Shakes
The Shakes is a 50-minute mat Pilates burn that mixes contemporary and classical style movements, emphasizing the mind-body connection. Each movement carefully focuses on form to activate the body’s inner-stability units and build core strength, while also lengthening, mobilizing, and toning all areas of the body. Movements start off slow and gradually build up to advancements as class goes on. The class uses various props such as light weights, a stability ball, and resistance bands to ensure your deeper muscles are engaged, giving you that Pilates shake as you move through class.
Incorporating Ski/Snowboard technique with Pilates
Whether you’re an amaeteur or advanced skiier/snowboarder, incorporating the elements of Pilates into your regular exercise routine can increase your technique greatly while also preventing injury. Stability, mobility, and strength are the overlapping fundamentals of winter sports and Pilates – combining the two is one of the best things you can do throughout the winter season.
Kylie McCavitt – Bio
Kylie is the lead instructor and founder of The Shakes Pilates, a mat Pilates club based in New York City and popping up in various summer/winter locations. With over 5 years of Pilates mat/reformer training, Kylie founded The Shakes in 2024 with a passion for the mind/body connection and sharing her love of Pilates with others. She received her certification from Gramercy Pilates, where she not only learned to teach but also became proficient in anatomy, biomechanics and movement science – identifying the purpose of muscle groups within each specific movement and how they come together to lengthen and strengthen one’s body. Kylie’s teaching method pays close attention to detail and form, cultivating a unique and personalized class experience.
