Literary Exploration: Braiding Sweetgrass
Arts & Culture
A collaborative gathering to explore the ideas discussed in the book Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, led by Claudia Cunningham.
This engaging read eloquently weaves together Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants. It is a nonfiction book about the role of Indigenous knowledge as an alternative or complementary approach to Western Mainstream scientific methodologies.
We invite you to consider how we can bring the wisdom of Braiding Sweetgrass into our culture. Concepts for exploration: How we see ourselves and others, Reciprocity and Gifting, Mutual Flourishing, Nature (is it property or a gift or ?), and exciting collaboration!
Claudia Cunningham is a product of two worlds. European and American, she’s grown up observing different cultures. She has always been curious and fascinated with people and the varied ways we choose to live our lives. A long time Roaring Fork Valley resident, she is grateful for her Carbondale home, her family, community, and her work.
You do not have to read the book to participate, but advance registration is required.
