Art & MOLLIE
Located in the heart of Aspen, Colorado, MOLLIE opened as a boutique hotel in December 2023. A rich yet subdued palette — inspired by the surrounding landscape — shapes the interiors and reflects a connection to the natural world.
Aspen’s evolution from a silver mining town to a center of art, culture, and innovation was shaped by the visionaries who arrived after World War II, bringing modernist ideas and a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the Roaring Fork Valley. Inspired by the landscape, artists, designers, and thinkers helped define Aspen’s distinctive creative identity.
MOLLIE honors this legacy by weaving together the town’s history, artistic influence, and surrounding mountain environment. Drawing inspiration from art and design traditions from around the world, the hotel has commissioned the following artists and makers to create custom works that are thoughtfully integrated throughout the property. These pieces help shape MOLLIE’s unique character, reflecting Aspen’s enduring spirit of creativity while creating a meaningful sense of place for guests.
RACHEL SNACK
Textile artist Rachel Snack drew inspiration from two influential artists with ties to Aspen: abstract painter Agnes Martin and weaver Anni Albers. Building on MOLLIE’s mark, she created a custom weaving that reflects the hotel’s creative influences and sets the tone for the warm, residential experience found throughout the property.
Upon entering MOLLIE, guests are welcomed by the weaving displayed beside the lobby fireplace. Warm and inviting, it serves as a visual introduction to both the hotel and Aspen, encouraging guests to settle into their downtown retreat and begin their stay.
VIRGINIE HUCHER
Virginie Hucher is a contemporary French abstract and figurative artist whose work explores the human body, nature, and choreography. Before transitioning to painting, she studied dance, using the rhythm of movement to influence her artistic process, which she refers to as “Living Supports”.
ALI ENACHE
Ali Enache is a Los Angeles–based abstract painter whose minimalist, textural works explore the shifting atmospheres of memory and emotion. Working with diluted acrylics on unprimed canvas, she coaxes pigment into diaphanous washes that dissolve into one another, punctuated by decisive marks that hover between fragility and resolve.
HAILEY YOUNG
Hailey is a contemporary abstract painter whose work explores balance, rhythm, and the emotional qualities of color and form. Drawing inspiration from modernist traditions, her paintings often blur the line between structure and atmosphere, creating compositions that feel both intentional and open to interpretation.
MATTHEW JOHNSON
Matthew started pursuing the Above Ground series as a means to soften the direct, perhaps sometimes ‘loud’ nature of a photograph. He finds there can be a gap between photography and art, and for him, this series has been an exploration of bridging it. The tactile nature of film combined with experimentation of aperture and shutter feels a bit like painting in a way. When the shutter is open, he’s estimating what parts of the subject are being imprinted on the film, and for how long, how permanently. The goal is to feel like a vague recollection of a commute you take all too often, or maybe have only taken once, long ago.
ETHAN CAFLISCH
Ethan Caflisch is a London-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, photography, art direction, and design. His work is characterized by a thoughtful exploration of color, form, and emotion, often using abstract compositions and unconventional visual language to convey personal narratives and shared human experiences. Ethan created custom commissioned artwork for MOLLIE, and his pieces are displayed in select guest rooms throughout the hotel.
ETHAN COOK
Ethan Cook is a contemporary artist known for his distinctive abstract works that blur the line between painting and textile. Born in Texas and based in New York City, Cook creates compositions of color, texture, and form using handwoven canvas, often assembling the material into minimalist geometric arrangements. His work explores the relationship between craft and fine art, drawing inspiration from modernist traditions while celebrating the tactile qualities of weaving and fabric.
RYAN SNOW
Ryan Snow is a California-based artist whose work explores consciousness, resonance, and spatial perception through harmonic geometric abstraction and hand-made mineral pigment. Working on raw natural canvas with layered translucent washes of color, Snow approaches painting as both visual composition and perceptual calibration — where proportion, tone, edge, and flow interact as measured relationships within space. Ryan created custom commissioned artwork for MOLLIE, and his pieces are displayed in select guest rooms throughout the hotel.
MATTHEW LARSON
Matt Larson lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. His practice involves intricately embedding singular strands of fiber into sewn velcro panels to create seamless tapestry-like surfaces. Through controlled use of line, Larson achieves precise patterns and striations of color and texture. Optically, these works appear to follow a traditional warp and weft structure, but are built on a single plane. While solidly within the fiber art lens, Larson’s work holds close ties to painting, drawing, and minimalism, employing works rich with subtlety and nuance.
